I so enjoy finding newspaper articles that include my ancestors! It makes their lives come to life in a way that no other item does. You never know what you might find but it all tells a story. Sometimes they are simply visiting family or attending a party, other times they may be going to prison. Another time it may be an obituary or a death notice that finally connects you to those missing links. You just never know! Newspaper articles always seem miraculous to find and are very exciting to read. . FamilySearch Image Only Records

FamilySearch is in the process of digitizing records which means that they are scanning or using a digital camera to capture a digital copy of records which can then be viewed like a picture on a computer screen. Indexing an image means transcribing the information or data from the image of the record into a data base. The database can then be searched by name or any other set of useful parameters depending on the record and what was indexed. FamilySearch quickly realized that the indexing of the records was going to take far longer than the digitizing of the records. They asked the genealogical community if they would like access to the digital records even if they were not indexed. They answer was a resounding YES! FamilySearch thus has given the public access to the digital records that have not been indexed. Finding them may be a little bit tricky however.
