Youth Temple and Family History Consultants

I have been looking for training material for Youth Consultants and found these links that might be useful for youth and those working with youth. I think training youth consists of helping them incorporate family history into their youth activities as well as assisting them in acquiring the skills necessary to implement FIND TAKE TEACH 1 and 2. Further training would be based on their ability and desire to learn. They could practice what they learn with their family and youth leaders before helping other youth and ward members.

Youth Activity Ideas:

Ancestor Show and Tell- Have youth bring an object that belonged to an ancestor or reminds them of an ancestor. (Nothing valuable or breakable!) Have them take turns show-and-telling about the object and their ancestor. This can be surprisingly successful and it is fun to see the variety of things that can be shared. Leaders or the youth consultant can bring refreshments that are an ancestor's recipe to share.

Ancestor's Recipe Cooking Class- Plan a cooking class where the youth learn a cooking skill by sharing recipes from their ancestors. Some could bring samples of other recipes as refreshments. They should bring enough recipes to share with the group or a booklet could be compiled.

Ancestor Scavenger Hunt- Have everyone login to FamilySearch Family Tree. Give them a list of items that they need to find.  Allow time for each participant to share what they find. This could be two activities. One for finding and one for sharing. Have awards ready for the best items located determined by a designated judge. Scavenger Hunt items could include:

1. Man with the best mustache
2. Woman with the fanciest dress
3. Man with the best beard
4. Woman with the most children
5. Funniest story
6. Longest life
7. The best hairstyle
8. The best hat
